Courtesy Patrol celebrates 15 years

BECKLEY, W.Va., (NEWS RELEASE) – The popular and celebrated national-model West Virginia Courtesy Patrol (WVCP) program completed 15 years of roadside assistance and service to citizens and tourists across the Mountain State this week. The friendly fleet of roving white trucks is designed to enhance safety, render aid to disabled motorists, address roadway incidents or accidents while also providing vital Homeland Security and Amber Alert assistance and support.

"The Courtesy Patrol has reached a milestone that all of West Virginia can be proud of," said Jennifer Douglas, Courtesy Patrol Executive Director. "The program has helped and assisted thousands of West Virginians and out of state motorists in many ways and remains the only program of its kind in the country."

Established November 21, 1998, the West Virginia Courtesy Patrol has logged more than 68 million miles, assisted nearly 280,000 motorists, and received 2.8 million phone calls.  WVCP Officials are urging motorists to use caution and safety while traveling during the busy holiday season and to be aware and alert of the weather and road conditions.

"This program is an example of public-private partnerships and bi-partisanship at its best," Douglas said. "The Department of Transportation, Division of Tourism, and Health and Human Resources have all been instrumental in the growth and success of the West Virginia Courtesy Patrol for fifteen years and counting."

The Courtesy Patrol operates 16 hours/day, 7 days/week, and 365 days/year from 3:00PM to 7:00AM.  The toll free number to reach the Communications Center is 1-888-359-3683. For more information on safety tips and the program, go to wvccc.com or courtesypatrolwv.com.
