Many worried how storm will affect Thanksgiving travel

PRINCETON, W. Va (WVVA)-- The area is preparing for a nor'easter, a storm complete with ice and snow, just days before Thanksgiving.

If the holiday has you or your loved ones traveling this season, you may be wondering how this will impact travel plans.

We talked with Department of Highways crews in Mercer County as they loaded trucks with salt and finished their final preparations to battle the ice tomorrow could bring.

They tell us they're prepared and armed with 18,000 tons of salt to start the season.  But people waiting for relatives to arrive for the holiday are worried the storm could keep them apart this Thanksgiving.

"I'm worried they may have trouble getting here," said Gerry Phlegar, "because they say the storm is going to be so bad."

Some of Phelgar's relatives are waiting for the worst of the storm to pass before they leave home, hoping at least to connect with family in time for the weekend.

"[My brother is] going to call back to see how bad the storm is before he comes," she said."

And of course officials warn if you have to travel this Thanksgiving, just make sure you be careful, go slow, and give them room to treat the roads.
