Tazewell Co. Sheriff's Office warns of bank scam

TAZEWELL (WVVA) - The Tazewell County Sheriff's Office is warning residents to be alert of a scam targeting Grundy National Bank customers.

According to a post on the Sheriff's Office Facebook page, county residents have been receiving text messages falsely saying that their Grundy National Bank cards have been deactivated -- along with a phone number to call.

The sheriff's office advises residents not to call them or respond with any personal information.

Following is the full statement from the Sheriff's Office:

SCAM ALERT: It would appear the scammers are not even waiting until after Thanksgiving to start stealing from people! We are receiving a number of complaints from our citizens that they are receiving text messages telling them their Grundy National Bank Visa Cards or Debit Cards have been deactivated and it gives them a number to call. Please don't fall prey to these thieves, don't call them back, don't give them your information. The bank will not send you a text message telling you your card has been deactivated. They also won't ask you for your information like the card number or your social security number, they already have it. Please help us spread the word.
