State Police bust 9 meth labs in crackdown

BECKLEY (WVVA) - State Police have arrested more than two dozen individuals in less than a month on meth-related charges.

First Sgt. Michael Baylous and Trooper First Class L.W. Price will discussed the arrests in the during a news conference at the Beckley detachment of the State Police Friday morning.

Baylous said state troopers from Troops 3 and 6 put in extra effort -- aside from their normal daily duties -- to concentrate on meth lab activity.

Troop 6 covers Greenbrier, Raleigh, Fayette and Summers counties. Troop 3 includes Webster, Pendleton, Randolph and Braxton counties.

A total of 18 individuals were arrested on 47 felony charges since Oct. 26 by Troop 6. Baylous said troopers busted nine meth labs and 3 abandoned dump sites during that period.

Those arrested are as follows:

In Greenbrier County:

  • 10/26: Matthew Falls, 3 felony charges
  • 11/8: 1 abandoned dump site

In Raleigh County:

  • 10/27: Ronald Roberts, 3 felony charges
  • 10/28: 1 abandoned dump site

In Fayette County:

  • 11/4: Earnest Sorrells, 3 felony charges
  • 11/4: Melinda Gwinn, 3 felony charges
  • 11/4: Ralph Bland, 3 felony charges
  • 11/5: Abraham Ennis, 3 felony charges
  • 11/5: Angelique Ramsey, 2 felony charges
  • 11/5:Ryan Dodd, 3 felony charges
  • 11/5:Emily Murray, 2 felony charges
  • 11/5:Daniel Price, 3 felony charges
  • 11/6: Matthew D. Fox, 2 felony charges
  • 11/13: 1 abandoned dump site
  • 11/13: Matthew D. Fox, 2 felony charges
  • 11/14: Jerry M. Moul, 2 felony charges
  • 11/14: Gerald W. Hunter, 2 felony charges

In Summers County:

  • 11/7: James P. Hunt, 3 felony charges
  • 11/7: Codi S. Bowles, 2 felony charges
  • 11/12: Roger W. Reed, 3 felony charges
  • 11/12: Kandi A. George, 3 felony charges

While Baylous said the area's meth problem was not at the 'epidemic' levels of prescription drug abuse, he said the manufacture and use of methamphetamine in the region was a serious concern.
