Crews battled a brush fire in Mercer County.

It began around 2:30 PM Wednesday on Old Stony Gap Road, near Green Valley.

Chief David Thompson of the Green Valley-Glenwood fire department says it was started by an illegal burn.

The fire began in a pile of trash that included cans, appliances, and other items that are illegal to burn.

Approximately five acres were torched, with flames coming close to one abandoned house.

Dispatchers said crews finished up around 8 PM.

No injuries were reported.
