PRINCETON (WVVA) - New details into the murder of James 'Bo' Butler were revealed during a preliminary hearing Monday afternoon.

Oscar Combs Jr. appeared in court Monday for the hearing. He's charged with first-degree murder in Butler's 2011 death.

Combs Jr.'s father, Oscar Sr., waived the time limit to a preliminary hearing, according to John McGinnis, Assistant Prosecutor. His hearing will be rescheduled.

Combs Sr. and Combs Jr. each face a charge of first-degree murder.

During the hearing, Corporal Anthony Reed with the Hinton detachment of the West Virginia State Police testified that investigators were initially led to Oscar Combs Jr. and Sr. as suspects based on information received from an informant in Wyoming County.

Butler's body was found off Crumpler Road in Herndon two weeks after his disappearance. Butler traveled from Summers County to work in Wyoming County.

Reed testified that Combs Jr. had confessed to killing Butler. He said Butler died of a single gunshot wound to the back of the head. He said the men were meeting with Butler on the Mercer County side of Herndon Mountain, when it happened.

In his testimony, Reed said the father and son also robbed Butler, and Combs Sr. had told police they planned to rob Butler in order to pay some bills. Then they took Butler's body over the mountain to Wyoming County, where they disposed of it.

Reed said the men then disassembled the victim's truck, taking the parts to various places in Wyoming and Mercer Counties.

Reed added that police have recovered what they believe to be the murder weapon, but forensics are still being completed.

Additional charges and other arrests are possible in the investigation, said Reed.
