University officials address charges against 3 football players

ATHENS (WVVA)-- After police arrested three Concord University football players over the weekend, the university released a statement Monday.

Concord officials say the players in question were immediately suspended from the team when the school learned of the incident and they in no way condone the kind of behavior they are accused of.

The full statement reads:

"On November 15, 2013, three Concord University Football Players were arrested stemming from an incident off campus earlier in the week.  The three players in question were immediately suspended from the team on November 15, 2013, pending an investigation. The Concord University Athletic Department is fully cooperating with the investigating officers. Both the University and the Athletic Department were disappointed to learn of the situation. Concord University and its Athletic Department fully expect our Athletes to be role models and leaders in the community and in no way condone the type of behavior for which these athletes have been charged and will take the appropriate action.  At this time, the Concord University Athletic Department will withhold further comment, as it is University policy not to comment on open investigations."

ATHENS (WVVA)- Concord students went about their day per usual after the arrest of three of the mountain lion's football players were arrested on Friday.

Russell Bailey, Maricco Saunders, and Riyahd Richardson were arrested for malicious wounding, petit larceny and, conspiracy. According to Deputy Walters of Mercer County, the three went to an apartment to buy drugs and a fight broke out.

Students say they are shocked that this kind of behavior would occur at Concord.
