Maximum sentence issued to man who fired shots at apartments

BECKLEY (WVVA) -- A man accused of firing shots at a Beckley apartment complex in December 2012 gets the maximum sentence.

Raymond Stoumile, 26, of Beckley pled guilty to wanton endangerment and possession of a firearm by a felon earlier this fall.

Friday, he was sentenced to five years for each charge, plus the maximum enhancement, due to the severity of the crime.  Stoumile will spend 15 years in prison.

Stoumile fired shots with an AK-47 assault style weapon into the Hager Street Apartments in Beckley out of a car, while his fiance was driving.  At the sentencing, there was much debate as to whether the shots were self-defense.  However since Stoumile entered a guilty plea, self-defense could not be considered in the sentencing.
