WELCH (WVVA) -- Events across the Two Virginias Monday paid tribute to the region's veterans and the freedom that they've fought for.

The City of Welch continued an annual tradition with its 94th Veterans Day Parade. Nearly 80 entries saluting veterans made their way through town.

Scores of residents lined the streets in Welch to watch the parade pass by.

Organizers say the Welch parade is among the oldest Veteran's Day traditions in the country.

Residents also lined streets in Princeton for that city's annual parade. The Princeton parade featured many different sights and sounds, from marching bands to fire engines.

In Bluefield, Va., a groundbreaking ceremony took place to mark the beginning of renovations at the Veterans' Memorial near Asbury Park.

A total of $35,000 in donations have been collected to renovate the Veterans Memorial in Bluefield, Va.

The plans include the installation of granite along the front facade to represent all branches of the military.

Next Spring, tiles will be laid in memory or honor of area families who have served.

Officials from the Town of Bluefield, Va. and Tazewell County were on hand for the groundbreaking ceremony.

Funds collected came from individual donors, local governments, and the Shott Foundation.

Some communities began their Veterans Day celebrations over the weekend. The Town of Tazewell held its second annual Veterans Day Parade on Sunday.

The parade began at the high school and traveled to Main Street. Hundreds of residents lined the streets to take in the festivities.

A ceremony honoring those who've served concluded the day's events.

Also Sunday in Princeton, veterans were honored with a special concert at the Chuck Mathena Center.

The East River Mountain Town Band headlined, performing patriotic themes for the crowd.

Richlands held its parade on Saturday, followed by a special program at the Police Department that included guest speaker James Boyd, the Richlands Band, and a girl scout troop.

Special programs were also scheduled at the Kimball Veterans' Center (4 p.m.); Bluefield State College (10:30 a.m.); Concord University (8 a.m. - 4 p.m.) and Tazewell High School (10 a.m.).

In addition to the public events, several businesses offered giveaways for veterans and active service members. Among them:
