UPDATE: After we shared these photos from McDowell County on Facebook, other viewers reported seeing similar occurrences in Greenbrier and Wise counties.

Viewer Kay Griggs also submitted a photo of an object streaking across the sky taken around 4:30-5:00 p.m. on her way to Wise, Va.

------

DAVY (WVVA) - A WVVA viewer has shared with us photos taken on Sunday that appear to show objects falling from the sky -- on the same day a European research satellite was expected to hit Earth.

Rhonda Walker snapped the photos of a pair of objects falling to Earth around 1:30 p.m. at her home in Davy, McDowell County -- approximately eight miles from Welch.

Walker said the objects made no sound, and appeared to fall slowly, then speed up as the came closer to Earth.

Perhaps coincidentally, the Associated Press reported earlier Sunday that The European Space Agency expected one of its research satellites that ran out of fuel crash to Earth between 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. EST.

The ESA said their satellite was expected to crash into the ocean or polar regions.

Spokeswoman Jocelyne Landeau told that AP that the satellite would mostly disintegrate as it came down and "we will have only a few pieces which could be 90 kilograms at the most."

WVVA News cannot confirm that these two events are connected in any way.

The ESA is tracking the fall of their satellite at this link.
