WELCH (WVVA) - A McDowell County jury has found Rebecca Hatcher not guilty in the murder of her father-in-law, former War Mayor Tom Hatcher.

The verdict was reached around 1:30 p.m. The jury was not able to reach a verdict on the charge of conspiracy, to which the judge declared a mistrial.

Hatcher will be re-tried on that charge in 2014.

Bond was set at $10,000 on the conspiracy charge.

WELCH (WVVA) - Jurors in the Rebecca Hatcher murder trial have reached a verdict on one count, but are split 10-2 on another.

That announcement was made before noon in the McDowell County courtroom where Hatcher is on trial for the murder of her father-in-law and former War Mayor Thomas Hatcher.

Jurors in the Rebecca Hatcher murder trial began deliberations around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Rebecca Hatcher is accused of killing former War Mayor Tom Hatcher in his home in July 2012. Rebecca's brother, Earl Click, was also charged and will be tried at a later date.

On Monday, Rebecca Hatcher took the stand in her own defense, saying she was out of town when Tom Hatcher died.

"I would never hurt him," Rebecca said during testimony.

The prosecution alleges Rebecca and Click suffocated Tom Hatcher with a plastic bag while he slept.
