W.Va. official warns of recalled salad products

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia's agriculture commissioner is warning consumers about a recall of refrigerated, ready-to-eat salad products.

Commissioner Walt Helmick says the products manufactured by Reser's Fine Foods of Beaverton, Ore., were distributed nationwide. He says there have been no confirmed illnesses associated with the products, but Reser's expanded an existing recall because of concerns products from its Topeka, Kansas, facility might by contaminated with Listeria. That's an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly or frail people.

The product is sold under brand labels including 7-11, Aldi, Safeway, Sav-a-lot, Sysco, Walmart and Yoder. Packages will be marked with a Use-by or Best-by date, followed by a plant identifier code of 20.
