Jury Breaks in Hatcher Case

WELCH (WVVA) - Prosecutors said there will be no verdict Tuesday night for Rebecca Hatcher.

She is the McDowell County woman on trial for the murder of her father-in-law and former War Mayor Thomas Hatcher.

Prosecutors tell WVVA the jury is on break for the night and will resume deliberation at 9a.m. on Wednesday.

Jurors in the Rebecca Hatcher murder trial began deliberations around 10:30 a.m.

Rebecca Hatcher is accused of killing former War Mayor Tom Hatcher in his home in July 2012. Rebecca's brother, Earl Click, was also charged and will be tried at a later date.

On Monday, Rebecca Hatcher took the stand in her own defense, saying she was out of town when Tom Hatcher died.

"I would never hurt him," Rebecca said during testimony.

The prosecution alleges Rebecca and Click suffocated Tom Hatcher with a plastic bag while he slept.
