TAZEWELL (WVVA) - A Tazewell County man is arrested after a shipment of bath salts from China are intercepted by customs agents in Alaska.

According to a news release from the Tazewell County Sheriff's Office, David Rudolph Taylor was arrested Wednesday after the execution of a search warrant at his Pounding Mill Branch Road residence.

An eight-month investigation into alleged drug activity by Taylor concluded earlier this week when the Department of Homeland Security advised officials of a package seized by U.S. Customs agents in Anchorage, Alaska, the release states.

The package contained approximately 4 ounces of bath salts which Taylor had allegedly ordered from China. The narcotics had an estimated street value of $12,000.

"This is a great demonstration of cooperation between local, state and federal agencies," Commonwealth Attorney Dennis Lee stated. There was a great deal of work put in on this case, for many months by agents of the Virginia State Police, Tazewell County Sheriff's Office, Tazewell Police Department, Richlands Police Department and Bluefield Police Departments."

Taylor was  charged with Possession with the intent toDistribute a Schedule I/II narcotic and is being held without bond in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority, Tazewell Facility.

Agents also seized a number of items from inside Taylor's residence. The investigation is ongoing.

"Our officers put in countless hours after receiving the tip from the Dept. of Homeland Security and they did an outstanding job conducting surveillance and following leads," Lt. Jeffery White, of the Tazewell Police Department added. "It would appear through the course of this investigation that Taylor had been conducting his illegal enterprise for some time. Closing the loop and making this arrest will have a dramatic impact on the illegal sale of bath salts in our area.
