Family of UVa student killed in Dominica sues

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) -- The father of a University of Virginia student killed during a study abroad trip last year is suing over her death.
Twenty-two-year-old Casey Shulman of Falls Church was killed in December during a visit to the Caribbean island of Dominica. She died after being struck by a dive boat's propeller.
Shulman and more than 50 other students visited the island as part of a "Semester at Sea" program, which is sponsored by U.Va.
The suit was filed this month in federal court in Miami by her father, David Schulman.
The Daily Progress reports that the suit alleges negligence by the "Semester at Sea" program and others, seeking funeral expenses and compensatory damages.
A spokeswoman says the program has not been served in a lawsuit from the Schulman family.
