Young Hokies looking to surprise ACC foes

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) -- Virginia Tech's players know not much is expected from the men's basketball team this season.
The media picked the Hokies to finish last in the Atlantic Coast Conference, and it was almost unanimous.
Jarell Eddie and his teammates can't wait to prove the voters wrong.
They say the Hokies will be a surprise team in the ACC this season, thanks to an improved work ethic and an infusion of young talent that gives second-year coach James Johnson more options.
Johnson will need those options after losing  Erick Green, who led the nation in scoring with 25 points per game.
One player the coach will turn to is transfer Adam Smith, a shooting guard from N.C.-Wilmington. The Hokies say Smith plays his best in big games.
