Former Globetrotter share story of overcoming obstacles with Tazewell students

TAZEWELL (WVVA) - A basketball player shared his story with Tazewell County students Wednesday about how the one thing that should've held him back, was actually the key to making it big.

Former Harlem Globetrotter Seth Franco was born with hip dysplasia, which cut his college basketball career short. While he was off his feet, Franco taught himself basketball tricks with his hands and eventually scored himself a spot with the world-famous Globetrotters in 2003 and 2004.

"It taught me that great things happen when you don't give up," Franco said. "For me I played with the Globetrotters and then I had to stop playing. I've had to have surgery on my legs, again so I'm not playing anymore, and for me this is kind of the second chapter of my life and it's a ton of fun. I really enjoy it."

If you want to meet Franco, he'll be at Tazewell Middle School Thursday night for a family night. There will be free basketballs and t-shirts, plus a $1,000 half court shot.
