UPDATE: Bluefield Salvation Army warns of door-to-door scam

BLUEFIELD (WVVA) - Capt. Jerry Lester with the Bluefield Salvation Army tells WVVA News Monday morning that is office has received more reports of scammers in the Bluewell area going door-to-door claiming to be seeking donations from the charity organization.

Lester says one caller reported multiple individuals in a black sedan visiting homes claiming to be with the Salvation Army.

Lester reiterated that the Salvation Army does not seek donations by going door-to-door. They only solicit monetary donations through mail campaigns and the annual kettle drive.

BLUEFIELD (WVVA) - The Bluefield Salvation Army is warning residents about reports of a person going door-to-door falsely claiming to be collecting money for the organization.

Capt. Betty Lester with the Salvation Army tells WVVA News that her office received a call from a Bluewell-area resident who said a person who claiming to be with the Salvation Army came to their door seeking donations.

Lester says the Salvation Army does not visit homes seeking donations. They only solicit donations through mail campaigns and the annual kettle drive.

Anyone who may have been affected by this scam are advised to contact their local authorities.
