Mercer Co. family displaced after early morning fire

MERCER COUNTY (WVVA) -- A family in Mercer County feels lucky to be alive Tuesday morning, after a fire broke out at their home overnight.

Dispatchers and emergency officials received the call just before four for a home on Matoaka Road.  After arriving, crews were able to control the blaze within ten minutes they say.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire started in the kitchen, most likely from the wood-burning stove.

The home underwent a lot of smoke and water damage, but some seems salvageable.

All family members, even pets, made it out unharmed.

"I thanks God, and I pray to God, and I thank him so much for getting my kids out of there," says Tammy Norris, the mother and grandmother of the fire victims.  She lives next door and will be taking care of them.
