Security amped up at Bridge Day

FAYETTEVILLE, W. Va (WVVA)-- With all the activities going on, there was a huge police presence at Bridge Day above the New River Gorge in Fayetteville.

But before entering the bridge, visitors underwent several precautionary procedures.

Each person carrying a small bag went through a purse check.

One of the new security procedures at the event-- hand-held metal detectors meant to catch any harmful devices being carried in.

While most people were ok with all this, there were some complaints, said troopers.

"The only issues we have that goes is some people don't feel convenienced and they have to deal with that  and they put their bags pack in car and we have a good day," said Sergeant Greg Duckworth with the West Virginia State Police.

It's possible there will be even more security procedures in upcoming years.
