Murder charges among Mercer County indictments

PRINCETON (WVVA) - A pair of suspects charged in the shooting death of a Princeton woman are among those indicted by the latest sitting of the Mercer County Grand Jury.

32-year-old Steven McDonald and 23-year-old Latasha Kanode admitted to conspiring to rob and kill 44-year-old Sherry Matthews at her residence at 1031 Thornton Avenue last July.

The pair allegedly entered Matthews' home in the early morning hours, fatally shot her and shot another individual at the home -- 41-year-old Edward Thomas -- in the face before fleeing.

Thomas survived and was able to identify the suspects to investigators.

Both Kanode and McDonald are charged with first-degree murder and first-degree robbery.

In another unrelated murder case, Judith Kowaleski faces charges of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Elizabeth Slagle in Brushfork.

The March shooting apparently occurred after an argument between the two mothers over a previous incident between their children on a school bus.

Kowaleski has claimed the shooting was an accident.

These three cases are among 105 indictments released on Friday. Click here to view the complete list
