Manchin part of compromise to reopen government

Democratic Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Republican Senator Susan Collins of Maine are leading the bi-partisan effort to reopen government.

They're just two of a dozen senators made up of six democrats and six republicans who have worked for two weeks to hammer out the deal.

Manchin says the plan includes funding the government at least till January so the country doesn't default.

It also stretches the debt limit past January and mandates a budget conference for the first time in five years.

Regarding Obamacare, the plan delays the medical device tax for two years that was part of the Affordable Health Care Act.

"This is not the place that you start fooling with the finances of our country because of your personal or social agenda.  That's what our committees are for and if we could ever get to regular order where people will quit trying to hijack everything that's done a sensationalize it, hopefully we can do our business better," says Senator Manchin, (D)-West Virginia.

Although politics are very unpredictable, Senator Manchin remains optimistic that if congressional leaders give thumbs up to the plan or some variation, the federal government could reopen Thursday morning.
