BECKLEY (WVVA) - A man was killed Wednesday night after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross five lanes of traffic in Beckley.

The Beckley Police Department says 62-year-old Billy Francis Koontz of Beckley was struck and killed by a 2011 Kia Sorento traveling south on Robert C. Byrd Drive near Beckley Crossing around 8 p.m.

Police say it appears Koontz had been drinking at the time of the accident.

The name of the driver has not been released. Police say there is no evidence of improper driving.

The crash is being investigated by Corporal W.F. Priddy.

BECKLEY (WVVA) A pedestrian is taken to the hospital after being hit by a car on Wednesday.

Dispatchers said it happened just before 8p.m., in front of the Auto Zone on Robert C. Byrd Drive in Beckley.

Presently, detectives with the Beckley City Police Dept. are investigation.
