Raleigh Co. School Board passes new communication policy

BECKLEY (WVVA) -- The Raleigh County School Board is making sure teachers and students understand what is appropriate when it comes to communicating with one another.

The board passed a new communication policy at their meeting Tuesday. The policy says the exchange, via text or online, must be school related. It can be about academics or extra-curricular activities.

"For example, if an athletic coach would like to send a message to all athletes on his team that practice is canceled today, that is appropriate. That's related to extra-curricular activity," Superintendent Jim Brown said.

The new policy move follows the firings of two teachers earlier this year for sending inappropriate texts to students.
