Police warn against Medicare scam

PRINCETON, W. Va (WVVA)-- The Mercer County Sheriff's Office has put out a public awareness notice regarding a recent Medicare scam affecting members of the community.

Police say a man is contacting Medicare recipients and asking them to verify their Medicare number and address. Then, he asks them for bank information.

According to police, the man advises if he doesn't get that information, Medicare benefits would be canceled.

Officers advise you not to provide anyone with that information by phone. They say this particular caller is using a fictitious number and it is a scam.
