Three deaths in three days have federal regulators concerned for coal miners' safety

(WVVA) – Three deaths in three days have federal regulators concerned about the safety of coal miners.

Due to significant staffing cutbacks stemming from the government shutdown, federal regulators are urging U.S. coal companies to refocus on health and safety regulations.

In West Virginia, a miner was struck in the head with a piece of equipment. The two other deaths were in Illinois and Wyoming.

A golf cart flipped and pinned a miner while a dozer driver went over a 150-foot highwall.
