PRINCETON (WVVA) - A Mercer County man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly attempting to run over a police officer during a chase.

Richard Anthony Hart, 46, of Matoaka, faces charges of attempted murder, grand larceny and obstructing an officer after allegedly leading police on a chase in a stolen car in the Spanishburg area Monday night, according to Sgt. Miller with the Princeton detachment of the West Virginia State Police.

Miller said the car was stolen from a residence in Spanishburg.

Hart was arraigned in Princeton Tuesday morning. Bond was set at $50,000.

SPANISHBURG (WVVA) – A stolen car chase ends with an arrest on Monday Night.

According to police, it started at 8p.m., when a state trooper spotted the driver of a stolen vehicle on Rich Creek Road in Spanishburg. When the trooper attempted to stop the car, police said the driver picked up speed and attempted to flee.

State police said they were able to catch up with the vehicle and make an arrest several minutes later.

Police are withholding the name of the individual in custody pending an investigation.
