Bland County high school students experience drunk driving

Some high school students in Bland County found out what's like to drive drunk.

The Virginia State Police brought their DUI Simulator to Rocky Gap High School Wednesday afternoon.

Students drove a golf cart along a course wearing fatal vision goggles that show what it's like having a blood alcohol level of .08 and .16.

Students also tried to walk a straight line.

Organizers hope the experience makes an impact that students will never forget.

"It's just all dizzy and can't really see straight.  It's very dangerous," says Brian King, a senior at Rocky Gap High School.   "Everyone my age is ten feet tall and bulletproof and we don't believe anything anybody says unless it happens to us directly," says T. J. Hicks, a junior at Rocky Gap High School.

Troopers with the Virginia State Police take the simulator to schools across Southwest Virginia.
