'Suspected missing monies' investigated at Tazewell Middle School


TAZEWELL (WVVA) - An investigation is underway into suspected missing funds at one local middle school.

Commonwealth Attorney Dennis Lee's office has confirmed to WVVA News that there is a pending case of missing monies from Tazewell Middle School. No further details were given.

The Tazewell County School Board has also confirmed the investigation.

Division Superintendent Dr. Michaelene Meyer released the following statement on the situation:

"Upon notification of the potential irregularities in Tazewell Middle School's accounting for school activity funds, and suspected missing monies, Dr. Brenda Lawson notified members of the Tazewell County School Board.  The School Board took immediate action in this matter by informing and turning over the investigation to appropriate authorities.  At this time, the division has no further comment to make regarding this matter."

Commonwealth Attorney Lee is expected to address the case Thursday afternoon.
