SPRINGVILLE (WVVA) - A felony charge has been filed against a Tazewell County man who police say falsely reported that he was shot by an intruder in his Springville home last year.

Shane Tibbs has been charged with Discharging a Firearm into a Dwelling -- a Class 6 felony -- in connection with the Oct. 2012 incident at Tibbs' home on Melrose Street in which Tibbs told police that a masked intruder had entered his home and shot him.

"Our investigation has determined that there was no Breaking and Entering that occurred, but that it was falsely called in by Mr. Tibbs," Sheriff Brian Hieatt said. "We have spent a great deal of time investigating this incident and looking at all the evidence to determine what actually happened on Melrose Street that day."

Shortly after the incident last fall, deputies ended their search for a suspect when no evidence of intrusion into the home could be found.
