$23M interstate project in Charleston nears end

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Motorists traveling through Charleston won't have to deal with interstate construction much longer.

West Virginia Department of Transportation spokesman Brent Walker tells the Charleston Daily Mail that the $23 million project is expected to be completed by Oct. 15.

Contractors are repairing and resurfacing portions of Interstates 64 and 77 where the highways merge near downtown Charleston. The work is being done at night and on weekends to avoid heavy commuter congestion. Highways officials say an average 110,000 vehicles pass through the area on any given day.
