BLUEFIELD (WVVA) - A Mercer County man who allegedly removed his home confinement bracelet and attempted to mail it -- shutting down a federal building in the process -- is now being sought by law enforcement.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Chris Lair says 51-year-old Michael Cunningham of Camp Creek is wanted for absconding from home confinement.

Lair says Cunningham removed his home confinement bracelet and attempted to mail it at the post office in the Elizabeth Kee Federal Building in Bluefield.

When workers heard noises coming from the package, the building was evacuated and a bomb technician was called in.

Cunningham was on pre-trial release for fraud charges.

Cunningham is described as a white male, approximately 5'10", 260 pounds. He may be driving a blue 1991 Mazda pickup truck with a West Virginia Centennial tag numbered 032160.

If you have any information on Cunningham's whereabouts, contact your local authorities.

BLUEFIELD (WVVA) - A "suspicious package" that disrupted business at the Elizabeth Kee Federal Building in Bluefield Tuesday wound up containing a home confinement bracelet.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Chris Lair tells WVVA News that the package was discovered just before 11 a.m. in the post office of the building, when a beeping noise was heard coming from inside the package.

An X-ray of the package revealed an electronic device and wiring. Workers inside the building were then evacuated and Bland Street was closed to traffic.

A State Police bomb technician was called to the scene. The device turned out to be the home confinement bracelet that was being mailed back to the Mercer County Probation Department.

Traffic is now moving normally and business has since resumed at the building.

Lair says federal authorities are looking into the situation. Local charges are possible.

----

BLUEFIELD (WVVA) - Employees at the Elizabeth Kee Federal Building have returned to work following an evacuation Tuesday afternoon.

An employee of a nearby business tells WVVA News that they were told the evacuation was due to the discovery of a "suspicious package" at the post office adjacent to the federal building.

Everyone inside the building was evacuated and traffic on Bland Street was disrupted. The situation has since been resolved and traffic is flowing as normal.
