RV carrying 70 rescue dogs crashes in Southwest Va.

WASHINGTON CO., Va. – On Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, Sr. Trooper P.J. Battel investigated a single vehicle crash that occurred in the northbound lane of  Interstate 81 just south of Exit 24 in Washington County. Virginia State Police were notified of the crash at approximately 6:02 a.m.

A 2007 Motorhome (Ford Jamboree) was traveling in the right lane when the driver stated she swerved to avoid a slower moving vehicle in front of her. The driver lost control of the motorhome - causing it overturn onto the passenger side.

The driver, Karen A. Carlisle, 45, of Cabot, AR, was charged with reckless driving. There were no injuries to the driver or passenger.

The vehicle was also transporting approximately 70 rescue dogs from Arkansas to Maine when the crash occurred. All of the animals were kept in portable kennels and one dog suffered a minor injury from the crash.

The animals were taken from the scene into the care of the Washington County Animal Control Division.

The Meadowview Volunteer Fire Department provided assistance with the crash.
