PRUDENCE (WVVA) - An Oak Hill man who police say broke into a home before setting it on fire has been arrested.

Christian Warrick, 31, has been charged with first-degree arson and nighttime burglary in connection with the fire in the early morning hours of Saturday, Sept. 14, at a home on North Errington Road in the Prudence area, near Oak Hill.

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office says Warrick was captured on surveillance video inside the residence stealing items, then setting fire to a couch in the living room.

An execution of a search warrant at Warrick's home resulted in the recovery of several items of evidence linking him to the crime, police said.

Police say Warrick confessed to the crime when confronted with the evidence. He was arraigned and released on $25,000 bond.

The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire, as the owner is currently incarcerated on drug charges.

FAYETTE COUNTY (WVVA) -- An early-morning fire in the Prudence area of Fayette County is being investigated as a possible arson.

The fire broke out around 6 a.m. Saturday at a residence on North Errington Road.

Although the incident remains under investigation, investigators have gathered enough evidence to support the theory that the fire was intentionally started by someone.

The owner of the residence is currently incarcerated on drug charges and the home was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

"Our investigators have gathered information indicating that this home was apparently burglarized before the fire was started," said Sheriff Steve Kessler. "Further evidence indicates that this fire was started in the living room area of the residence. We have identified a person of interest in connection with this investigation, but no arrests have been made at this time."
