RUPERT (WVVA) - Police are investigating an early-morning shooting in Greenbrier County on Friday that left two neighbors injured after apparently trying to chase down suspects in an attempted break-in.

Police said two suspects were attempting to break into a mobile home near City National Bank in Rupert at 2:11a.m. Friday, when the homeowner altered neighbors, who then proceeded to pursue the suspects on foot in an attempt to get a license plate number from their vehicle.

Police say the suspects drove by the men giving chase, firing shots that hit one in the forehead and another in the leg.

The injuries were said to be non-life threatening. The victims were alert enough to provide information to police.

Police said the two injured were taken to Greenbrier Valley Medical Center.

At least one mobile home nearby was also hit by the shots.

Police said the search continues for the suspects.

The Greenbrier County Sheriff's Dept. and State Police are investigating.

WVVA's Kristen Conner is in Rupert speaking to residents affected by the incident. Hear from them this evening on WVVA News at 5 and 6.
