A solar power bicycle provides a source of transportation for one student

BLUEFIELD (WVVA) – James Irvin, of the Robotics Club at Bluefield State designed an electric bicycle which he is using as his main source of transportation to college.

The bicycle runs off the sun, and is constructed from three different bicycles and some old parts from previous projects.

Irvin says the bicycle has the potential to reach around 100 miles per hour; however, he has turned the speed down for safety reasons.

Professor, Dr. Robert Riggins says robotics is a way for students of all backgrounds to come together and work as a team, "I really think that robotics is a great way to get these students out into the real world."

James says, "Because I have a cell phone, I even put an USB charger on it." This futuristic invention is saving James money and turning heads.

The Robotics club presents all their inventions at different shows throughout the year.
