Mingo prosecutor to recommend sergeant's rehiring

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. (AP) -- Mingo County's prosecutor says he'll recommend the reinstatement of a sheriff's sergeant when a new sheriff takes office.
Prosecutor Michael Sparks tells media outlets that misconduct was the official reason given for Sgt. Arthur Farra's firing in February by Sheriff Eugene Crum.
But the prosecutor recently learned about new information that may have contributed to the dismissal. Sparks declined to specify the new information or details about the firing but says Farra was terminated for "less than credible reasons."
Sparks says he's contacted Farra's attorney and will recommend that Farra be reinstated with back pay.
Crum was fatally shot on April 3 while eating lunch in his car in downtown Williamson. Interviews are being conducted to choose a permanent sheriff.
