ALDERSON (WVVA) - The man accused of trashing an area Little General Store has been formally charged.

Steven Shafer was arrested Sunday and charged with destruction of property and disorderly conduct.

According to eyewitnesses, Shafer entered the store last week, laid on the ground and proceeded to smash and throw items from the shelves. A glass door on the store's beer cave was shattered in the process.

Shafer is free on bond.

ALDERSON (WVVA) - Police were called to the Little General in Alderson Thursday after a man became hostile and trashed the store.

Workers at the store said the man initially appeared to be ill, so they contacted 911 for an ambulance.

Moments later, workers say the man became hostile -- that's when they called 911 again for police assistance.

The workers say the man then became violent, throwing items from the shelves, breaking a glass cooler door in the process. Employees and customers then fled the store.

The man was taken from the store to Greenbrier Valley Hospital where he was in Intensive Care. He is expected to be arrested once out of the hospital.

Police say the man did not appear to be in his right state of mind and that his actions resemble those of someone under the influence of narcotics.
