FOLLOW UP: Investigator says fire that destroyed mayor's home 'suspicious'

MABSCOTT (WVVA) - Investigators are treating the fire that destroyed an area mayor's home as 'suspicious,' officials confirm to WVVA News.

Dep. Fire Marshal Reed Cook says the fire is believed to be suspicious due to the close proximity of another fire -- in the same neighborhood, at approximately the same time -- that investigators believe was intentionally set.

In an exclusive interview with WVVA News, Mabscott Mayor Wayne Houck speculated that the fire that destroyed his home was set by someone who broke in.

"Somebody broke into it.  I know that for sure... If I had been home, my home would've been here," said Houck. "I'm sure they took whatever they wanted, went ahead and set it on fire and left."

Both fires remain under investigation.
