CONFIRMED: House fire victim is a Raleigh Co. Mayor

MABSCOTT (WVVA) -- One of the two homes burned Monday in Raleigh County belongs to Mabscott Mayor Wayne Houck.  Houck spoke exclusively to WVVA Tuesday afternoon.

He says he was on a camping trip for the holiday weekend when he got the call that changed his life.  By the time he returned home, his home was fully engulfed.  Now only the shell remains.

State Fire Marshals are investigating the cause, but Houck says he thinks he knows what happened.

"Somebody broke into it.  I know that for sure... If I had been home, my home would've been here," says Houck, still in shock from what's transpired.  "I'm sure they took whatever they wanted, went ahead and set it on fire and left."

Houck says he's staying with family until he decides what to do next.

State Fire Marshals tell WVVA the investigation is taking longer than expected.  There's still hours worth of analysis to be done.
