UPDATE: Two overnight fires burn homes in Mabscott

MABSCOTT (WVVA) -- Fire crews responded to multiple fires in Mabscott early Monday morning.  The first call came in a little after 1 a.m. for a home on Lee Street, just off of Robert C. Byrd Drive.

One firefighter was sent to the hospital for exhaustion, but he's been released.

Officials say the home was abandoned, but the people who lived there before still had all their belongings inside.

The residents tell WVVA they were just leaving the home temporarily while the landlord was making some repairs.  Then they found out the unimaginable had happened.

The second blaze broke out a little after 2 a.m. at a home on Spruce Street, also in Mabscott.

Five departments responded to the scene, fighting the flames for about four hours.

No word on how either fire was started, but no additional injuries have been reported.

WVVA will bring you the latest information as it comes available.
