WELCH (WVVA) - A McDowell County couple charged with child abuse after their children were found living in filthy conditions last week have waived their right to a preliminary hearing.

A motion to reduce bond for the pair was denied by Magistrate Danny Mitchell.

In speaking to WVVA News at the courtroom, Crystal's father said his daughter and son-in-law were not at home at the time Child Protective Services workers came to the home to remove the children.

Crystal's father tells WVVA News that the children were in the care of a babysitter at the time.

Melina Chappell, a friend of the family, told WVVA News that Crystal was a good mother.
