BLUEFIELD (WVVA) - Thousands of fans from several states filled Mitchell Stadium Friday night as the annual 'Battle of the Bluefields' between the Bluefield Beavers and Graham G-Men headlined a full slate of high school football action across the Two Virginias.
The Beavers were out for revenge after losing last year's contest to the G-Men -- and found it in the form of a 60-38 victory.
Across Mercer County at Hunnicutt Stadium, the Princeton Tigers put forth a dominating performance, dismantling the Tigers of Shady Spring 69-0.
Princeton's impressive victory came on an emotional night in which players, coaches and fans all paid tribute to former PSHS coach Sam White, who died suddenly last November.
As is tradition, Princeton and Bluefield will square off in Week 2.
In other matchups pitting area teams against each other, McDowell County's 'Battle of the Views' saw River View continue their winning ways over Mount View, 28-0.
Summers County defeated PikeView 18-12, the Liberty Raiders fell to Westside 38-16, Greenbrier East took apart James Monroe 47-22 and Independence came from behind to take down Midland Trail, 28-21.
As usual, WVVA.com will be your go-to source for all things football this season, offering live scoreboard updates throughout each Friday evening, our PickSix contest for the chance to win free gas and a live stream of our live Football Friday broadcast at WVVA.com/LIVE.
