Mercer Co. group raises money for wounded warriors

BLUEFIELD, W. Va (WVVA)-- A Mercer County organization is raising money for injured military service men and women.

The Bluefield Elks Lodge held a Wounded Warrior Project benefit, raising money to help the group provide much-needed services to injured war veterans and their families.

We spoke with Wounded Warrior Norbie Lara, the event's guest speaker.

He was injured in Iraq and lost an arm, also suffering brain and lung damage.

He tells us the Wounded Warrior Project changed his outlook for the rest of his life, for the better.

"Really what Wounded Warrior did for me was help me to accept my new normal," he said.
"Which was way different from my old normal of course. But it helped me change my perspective on life and helped me realize that my new normal was better than any old normal I could ever have."
