W.Va. begins tally of Scout Jamboree costs

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia officials are beginning to tally its costs to support the Boy Scout Jamboree.
Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin's staff expected to pour some $1.6 million worth of resources to keep things running smoothly at the 10-day event at the Summit Bechtel Family Scout Reserve near Glen Jean.  The Register-Herald reports so far officials say about $413,000 in West Virginia resources were spent for the event last month.  The amount doesn't include the overtime pay for the State Police, including 36 troopers from four states recruited to beef up West Virginia forces.
Officials say once all costs are totaled, that amount will be submitted to the Boy Scouts for reimbursement.  Despite the outlay of resources, Tomblin's office said the event spurred some momentary economic jolts throughout the state.
