Party for area children also teaches anti-drug message

BLUEFIELD, W. Va (WVVA)-- Many area children have just finished their first week of school, and the Bluefield Elks Lodge threw hem a party with a message on Saturday.

Kids played on bounce houses and had a barbecue to celebrate, but they also learned about the importance of being drug free.

The Elks taught them how to rise above substance abuse, and organizers say this party is a great way to start that conversation.

"We don't want these kids to be involved with drugs," said Jackie Barlow, the anti-drug program coordinator for the Elks."[We want them to] grow up knowing that there's a better life than drugs in the area. We want our kids in this community and kids all over the world to grow up in a better environment."

The party was open to children in need.
