White Coat Ceremony at WVSOM kicks off new year

LEWISBURG, W. Va (WVVA)-- Future doctors are celebrating in Greenbrier County.

The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine held its White Coat Ceremony Saturday.

More than 200 anxious students received their first white coats of their careers.

The medical school has been a part of the Lewisburg community since 1902.

For some local families, its one way their student can stay local and have a bright future ahead.

"It's amazing," said parent Chris Brash. "It's something he has had a goal of since he was 12 years old.... We are just so excited for him."

Brash says her son plans to stay in West Virginia after he finishes his schooling.
