More info behind suspension of 2 McDowell County Sheriff's Deputies

Posted:

We're learning more behind the suspensions of two McDowell County Sheriff's Deputies who were re-instated this week.

Although a civil service board voted to give Deputies Michael Pertee and Timothy Vineyard their jobs back, Sheriff Martin West still stands by his actions.

The two had been suspended for not responding to a domestic call in may that later someone was killed.

Sheriff West says domestic calls take precedence over other calls.

He adds Pertee was coming back from Mercer County and responded to dispatch, but went on two other incidents and never went to the domestic call.

He says Vineyard was at Welch Police and said Vineyard thought Pertee was responding.

"I listened to the 911 tape and I heard them putting it off when they are paid to respond. They don't get to pick and choose what they want to do," said Sheriff West.

Sheriff West says he doesn't plan on appealing the decision.

Instead, he want to put the situation behind and move on.
