PREVIEW: Montcalm aims to continue winning ways

MONTCALM (WVVA) - The Montcalm football team is coming a off a banner year, finishing the 2012 season with a winning record. And with much better numbers this time around, the Generals are hoping for their second-ever trip to playoffs.

"They're hungry this year," said senior Dakota Lanter. "Last year it was good, but I see determination in the team this year."

The Generals emerged from a handful of bad seasons to have their first winning campaign in years. They missed playoffs, but they say they learned from their mistakes and are working to right those wrongs.

"I learned that if you practice hard and even harder, you'll be able to win more games," said senior Ryan Absher. "And this home field is amazing because everyone comes out and supports us."

Almost 30 players are on the roster this season -- a sign that last year's success

helped boost the morale of the entire Montcalm community.

"The success from last year probably boosted the morale of the team and the community, making it easier to say ‘I'm a general and I'm proud of my school and my team," Lanter added.

Montcalm begins the season at home against Hundred.
