Construction workers form picket line next to four lane highway

BECKLEY (WVVA) -- Local construction workers are protesting a $10 million project at the VA Hospital in Beckley.

They say the New Jersey construction company responsible for the project, Seawolf Construction, has not hired locally.

The West Virginia Department of Labor has investigated the project.  According to a status report, Seawolf has been issued a cease and desist order for lack of license and wage bond.

The protesters say, they don't necessarily want the company to stop construction.  "People work with out of state contractors all the time," says Wayne Rebich, one of the protesters.  "A lot of out of state contractors send a supervisor and a foreman or two and then they hire local workers to do the work and that's all we're asking."

If you'd like to help out these workers and support their message, they ask you to call the project manager, Ernest Arana, at 973-508-5558, and ask him to hire local and obey West Virginia laws.
